FRUIT CROPS

Several mango lines have been selected and evaluated. Hand-pollination is employed to increase fruit set, determine phylogenetic relationship of parent and progenies, and shorten the breeding cycle. Blowflies raised by feed formula or dried-fish can increase fruit set more than 50%.

Spraying ethrel with proper fertilization of phosphorous, potassium and magnesium can relieve biennial bearing of litchi. This can increase fruit set, shorten fruit stalk, and increase soluble solids.

Heat-induced fruit-cracking and premature drop of murcott tangerine can be effectively decreased by irrigation with mulching.
