Statice

Statice

Statice (Limonium spp.) production was traditionally restricted to highland in the summer and lowland in the winter, due to insufficient low temperatures, in Taiwan. Low temperature treatment and long production time caused high production cost but low quality of flowers for growers. Through continuously selection and crossing under Taiwan climates, Tainan DARES has developed statice cultivars with early flowering and heat tolerance habit. The station had released variety ‘Tainan No. 1’. It can be planted in lowland in October and naturally flowers in December, and the introduced foreign cultivars can only flower in early spring of the next year. Historic auction record indicates statice has the best price before Chinese New Year (January to February). The varieties released by Tainan DARES has effectively increased the price of cut flowers and increased 1.5 times of cut flower numbers.
