FLORICULTURE
In order to promote the flower industry and increase the income of flower farmers, we have selected varieties such as Eustoma, Limonium, Matthola, Phalaenopsis and Oncidium suitable for the climate conditions in the Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan area of Taiwan. We've developed heat resistance testing techniques to screen offspring that adapt well to high-temperature environments during the seedling stage, thereby improving breeding efficiency. Among them, Eustoma Tainan No.1~6 were not easy rosette after planting. The Limonium Tainan No.1~2 & Nandares No.3 have low vernalization requirements for flowering. The Matthiola Tainan No.1~4 can be distinguished by the appearance of seedlings, making them the best heat-resistant varieties currently available. We have bred the Spathoglottis Tainan No.1~2 for pot flower and No.3-6 for landscape. We conduct research on seed propagation and meristem-based micropropagation techniques for Cymbidium, and germplasm collection of cultivars.
We have established cultivation models for summer vegetables and winter flowers, developed precision fertilization and irrigation techniques for drip irrigation management. The station has been developed a Phalaenopsis spike-forcing system combining energy conservation, high spatial efficiency, and automation for stable production of cut flowers. We are also developing cultivation media and energy-saving water management methods to improve greenhouse management techniques.
