Lisianthus

Lisianthus

Lisianthus [Eustoma grandiflorum (Raf.) Shinn.] has recently become an important floriculture crop in Taiwan, the cultivation area was 130 ha in 2012. A total of 8.4 million cut flowers / year was exported mainly to Japan for winter demand and valued NT$160 million dollars. Lisianthus is mainly cultivated in Changhua, Chiayi, and Tainan. However, introduced cultivars do not grow well under the weather conditions of Taiwan, which resulted in unstable production and quality. Tainan DARES has developed several heat-tolerant lisianthus cultivars, through 10-years of effort, suitable for local climates. The station has released 6 cultivars such as Tainan No.1 etc. They are easily grown without rosette under high temperatures, and with excellent flower colors.
