INTRODUCTION TO
TAINAN DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL
RESEARCH & EXTENSION STATION, COA
The Station provides services to detect soil fertility and plant nutrient status for the recommendation of optimum fertilization. Research is conducted on the development of drip irrigation for fruit vegetables to improve their yield and quality; development of controlled-release fertilizers; increasing stress tolerance of tomato inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi; composting with rice hulls, cow and pig dung, sugarcane bagasse, and used sawdust from mushroom culture; and developing core-shell growth media with high water-holding capacity made from clay and rice hulls for pot flowers.
The Station also handles agricultural pollution control in the watershed; restoration of farmland polluted with heavy metals; long-term agroecology monitoring trials at Yuinlin Branch Station; and demonstrations of organic agriculture for safe food production to maintain a balanced ecosystem and the sustainable use of farm land. Research on the development and application of vermicompost on agriculture, based on the results of C/N, seed germination and ingredient analysis, vermicompost obtained from all treatments were found to meet the standards announced by the Council of Agriculture.
